Grammy Nominated Brian McKnight Tops Stellar Lineup At Steppin’ Out for The Dimock Center

Legendary R&B singer and songwriter adds his smooth sound to support a terrific cause.

Roxbury, MA – The Dimock Center announced that the talented and soulful Brian McKnight will headline the 22nd edition of Steppin’ Out for The Dimock Center on Saturday, November 7th at The Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel.

With 7 platinum albums to his credit and more than 20 millions albums sold worldwide, McKnight will add his smooth sound to what is already a terrific lineup of great artists scheduled to appear at Steppin’ Out this year.

A critically acclaimed songwriter and performer, McKnight has received the Billboard Songwriter of the Year award and multiple Grammy nominations, as well as recognition from the American Music Awards, the Soul Train Awards and NAAC Image and Blockbuster Awards.

“Bringing Brian McKnight to Boston for Steppin’ Out is a real coup for The Dimock Center,” said Ruth Ellen Fitch, The Dimock Center’s President and CEO.  “We are very fortunate to be able to feature a talent of his caliber along with the talents of other fantastic artists we’ve lined up. The people of Boston are in for a great night, filled of music and fun, all in support of a great and much needed cause.”

A versatile artist, McKnight has collaborated with performers across a broad range of musical genres, from Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, Puffy and Christina Aquilera to Rascal Flatts, Willie Nelson, Vanessa Williams and Kenny G.

“I am thrilled to be a part of such a dynamic event that brings together people from all walks of life and celebrates local musical talent, all for a great cause. Giving back to the community and those in need by performing is something I truly enjoy,” said McKnight.

In addition to his success as a recording artist, McKnight’s career includes appearances on Broadway, performing in Chicago and Cheaters.

Sherry Winston Adds Unique Sound To Steppin’ Out Gala

Roxbury, MA – August 18, 2009 – Acclaimed jazz flutist Sherry Winston has been added to the lineup of the 22nd edition of Steppin’ Out for The Dimock Center on Saturday, November 7th at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel.  

Winston will add the signature sound of her jazz flute to an already dynamic lineup that will include as many as 20 different artists and groups.  

A talented musician, composer and producer, Winston’s career includes performances in some the country’s most hallowed halls of music. In addition to appearances on the legendary stages of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Constitution Hall, Winston has performed at the White House for President and Mrs. Clinton’s last holiday party and she has appeared as a featured guest on VH1, BET TV and The Today Show, among other national shows.  

“Steppin’ Out has a long tradition of bringing nationally recognized musicians to Boston for an evening of great entertainment in support of a terrific cause,” observed Ruth Ellen Fitch, The Dimock Center’s President and CEO.  “We are extremely excited to have an artist like Sherry Winston join us and look forward to unique sound of her jazz flute as part of the event’s lineup this year.”

Winston’s career includes performances with musical greats like Roberta Flack, Hubert Laws and Herbie Mann.  She has opened for a host of well-known artists ranging from Denise Williams, Regina Belle and Ramsey Lewis to Chaka Khan and Peabo Bryson.

To date, Winston has six albums to her credit. Her fourth, “Life is Love & and Love is You,” charted in Billboard Magazine, and features the late Grover Washington, Jr., saxophonist, Najee, guitarist, Norman Brown, keyboard wizard Bobby Lyle, and vocalist Jon Lucien. Winston’s most recent release, “For Your Love,” has received enthusiastic praise from the New York Beacon, Sounds of Timeless Jazz, the International Musician, and the Urban Music Scene.
