Does the
medical claim submitted by the billing company for payment match the
documentation in the medical chart at Dimock? Are Dimock’s Boards of
Directors aware of what is considered a conflict of interest as they
serve their terms as members? Is Dimock adhering to the regulatory
guidelines from State and Federal agencies like DPH; HIPAA; OSHA, and
grants? Do Dimock staff have someone they can talk to if they think
fraud may be occurring within our established billing or other
procedures?
To monitor these practices, Dimock created a
new program called Compliance, which is being implemented by the
Compliance Committee. The main goal for this program is to reduce the
risk that we are billing incorrectly, or incorrectly documenting the
services we are billing for. Another goal is to improve our systems to
be able to identify and detect poor billing practices, or actual fraud.
These risks can be managed by chart audits and other reviews of our
practices, and by educating staff about proper Coding procedures. By
monitoring compliance of the billing process, and by working to adhere
to state and federal regulations, Dimock can be sure it meets its
regulatory obligations, and practices within the law.
