(NECN:) - Illness or injury can strike unexpectedly and can sometimes leave patients incapacitated. But there are ways one can have control over the treatment received. Doctor Myechia Jordan, chief medical officer for the Dimock Center in Boston, explains this in the video player above. "I believe that you should get a health care proxy as soon as you become an adult," Dr. Jordan said. "It is an uncomfortable topic; however, it's one that needs to be addressed. What you don't want to happen to you is that you're incapacitated in some way and that your wishes are not carried out." Dr. Jordan described a health care proxy as a legal document recognized in all 50 states that should be done in consultation with a doctor. View the video here.
